Countdown to 2012 at Zojo Temple

Zojoji is a famous temple near Tokyo Tower. Each year on Dec 31, it holds a countdown event that draws tens of thousands of people.

Visitors write their wishes on pieces of paper and paste them to 3,000 balloons which are released into the sky after midnight to wish for peace and happiness in the New Year.

 The paper for writing your wish is distributed from 8:30 p.m. and the messages are put on the balloons from 10:30 p.m.

The countdown event starts at 11:20 p.m.

There is no charge for admission to the temple.

 

Access to Zojo Temple:

3 minutes walk from Onarimon station and Shibakoen station on Toei subway Mita line 

5 minutes walk from Daimon station on Toei subway Asakusa line and Oedo line

7 minutes walk from Akabanebashi station on Toei subway Oedo line 

10 minutes walk from Hamamatsucho station on JR and Tokyo monorail and Kamiyacho station on Tokyo Metro Hibiya line.
