The annual New Year’s Fire Review, called “Dezomeshiki,” is a spectacular demonstration of fire and disaster prevention performed by the Metropolitan Fire Department. It features firefighting drills, rescue, first aid, a parade of firefighting equipment and other various performances.

The event, held at Tokyo Big Sight, draws thousands of spectators every year.

One of the highlights was seeing members of the Edo Firemanship Preservation Association perform on bamboo ladders, showing how they used to fight fires back in the Edo Era.
