Interview with our three Swedish volunteers

May 30th, 2013By Category: Uncategorized

OGAforAID is always thankful to all the volunteers that come out and help. On this blog, we would like to not only update everyone on how OGAforAID is doing, but also turn the spot light to our wonderful volunteers! I hope our readers can see a glimpse of what our volunteers saw and felt through their experiences!

Meet Emma, Lovisa, and Jesper! Our volunteers all the way from Sweden!

As social studies majors who had the opportunity to conduct fieldwork abroad, this magnificent trio had their hearts set on coming to Japan. Not only did the trio share an affinity for Japanese food and anime, they were also interested in enriching Japan’s social issues.  Their interests led them to OGAforAid.

The three of them stayed in Minamisanriku for five weeks, from April 7th to May 7th. During their stay, they taught English to the local children and worked hard planting cucumbers, tomatoes, and chrysanthemums with the GFA project.

Emma and Jesper said, “The tour of Minamisanriku helped us come to an understanding of the situation, progress, and issues that surround the cities affected by the disaster. This is a strong memory I will take away with me”

Lovisa said, “it was hard work, but gave me a new perspective on farming. I especially  enjoyed singing karaoke after a hard days work in the field!”

At the end of their five week journey, they realized that more work needed to be done, and a little help does go a long way.

OGAforAid would like to show our appreciation for these three wonderful people. Thank you Emma, Lovisa, and Jesper, for all your hard work and dedication!
