Language troubles in Japan?

October 5th, 2012By Category: Uncategorized

Japanese education institute Kumon has designed a language course that fits nicely around the lives of folks living in Japan and have a common reason for their language troubles – that time is too short.

You know the situation – you have a job and when you are finished for the day, you are too tired or too stressed out to sit in class, behind the books, and try and concentrate on new words, grammar patterns and conversation structures. The knock-on effect of this is, of course, limited communication ability – you put off your learning and little everyday issues start to slow you down and make living in Japan a lot less rewarding.

Kumon’s course brings their established education expertise in a convenient structure that allows you to learn in your own time and in your own way. It has just been updated to match the new format for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, though the main goal still remains helping you improve in your own way and for your own needs.

The main format of the correspondence course is a set of study-at-home worksheets, audios that allow you to study in bite-size, easy-to-remember chunks. When you have completed these worksheets, you send them to your qualified instructor at Kumon, who will then review them and get them back to you with grading and further study assistance. At regular intervals, you will then have online Skype conversations and reading lessons with your teacher.

Learning is set to be taken in incremental steps, starting at the level that you are currently at and rising at your own pace until you are comfortable in your proficiency. Using the worksheet vocabulary and grammar, you can then make use of it directly in our online Skype sessions.

Because everything is done from home and you can arrange Skype lessons at your own convenience, this is the one course that fits in with your schedule and can be moved around to fit any changes.

Kumon, for those who are unfamiliar with the name, is a leading education company with popular courses serving thousands of Japanese students as well as foreign residents of the country. The company has a reputation in providing courses for subjects as diverse as mathematics to English, from primary school level right up to university students.

For those who study for their own requirements, the course has been carefully tailored and left flexible for your own needs. For those looking to take the JLPT test, it helps you deal with one of the biggest challenges of the newly redesigned examination – that test content is specifically published in order to discourage test-takers from simply rote memorization and instead is designed to challenge your overall knowledge.

Note: If English is not your first language, the instructors are also able to communicate in Chinese and Portuguese.

Interesting way of instruction, but it seems like a good plan. I especially use Skype and it helps in my opinion!
