Japan is famous for its quirky vending machines, some of which we introduced before at “Unique vending machines in Japan” and “Banana vending machine in Tokyo Station“.
The photo above and video below shows “vending machine 2.0″ which has an HD display and a face recognition system. It was developed by Sanden, Okaya Electronics and Intel.
It has a 65-inch clear full HD display which shows animation and a digital clock when no one is in front of it.
The vending machine 2.0 recognizes the face of the person who is in front of it, that person’s gender and approximate age. Then it automatically shows appropriate advertisements for that person.
Sanden is active in the U.S., so the vending machine 2.0 is likely to appear in the U.S. before long.
