TV commercials of the week: Toyota and Doraemon

November 21st, 2011By Category: Arts & Entertainment

Toyota’s new commercial starts out using characters from the famous animation “Doraemon.” Twenty years later, they are “reborn” at the age of 30 in live action scenes.

Nobita Nobi, the weakling, is played by actor Satoshi Tsumabuki and Takeshi “Gian” Goda, the big bully,  is played by mixed martial artist Naoya Ogawa.

The story starts with the girl, Shizuka wondering what they are going to be when they grow up. Suneo says that he’s going to be rich man, Gian says that he’s going to be one of the dregs of society, and Nobita says that he’s going to go driving with Shizuka. Twenty years pass and we see Gian still bullying Nobita.

In the sequel, Shizuka Minamoto is played by actress Asami Mizukawa and Suneo Honekawa is played by one of Johnny’s idols, Tomohisa Yamashita. Doraemon is played by French actor Jean Reno.

In the commercial, Nobita is going on a date with Shizuka to a camp site, but they miss their bus and get  stranded. Suneo appears with his car to offer them a ride. Back home, Nobita cries because he doesn’t have a car. Then Doraemon appears out of his desk drawer. Nobita asks Doraemon to get him a car but Doraemon refuses because Nobita doesn’t have a driving license.
