Mitsugiya, my place for buying sake in Fussa-shi, Tokyo.

Everyone, I suppose, settles on their favorite shops to buy the things they like. Most things I buy online, but this being impossible, and not as fun for sake, in Japan, you must have a reliable retailer to get the good stuff. I used to schlep to my favorite sake stores in Nakano, Ogikubo, Aoyama, Kokubunji or Meguro, having to load up with several ‘ishobin’ (1.8L bottle variety) just to make the trip worth while.

Well, that necessity has been obviated by the existence of Mitsugiya, the place for buying sake in Western Tokyo.

The brews on hand at this little shop are impressive, as is the obvious passion of the owner who stocks some of the best sake available in Japan. The inventory is not a large one, but it would take me some time to go through it all, and there is an ample amount to enjoy and review for the pages of this blog. Going forward, I am sure that the vast majority of items I review will be from Mitsugiya, since it is so convenient that they even let me park right in front of the store – a rarity in Japan. I will do a comprehensive review of this shop in the future, but if you are ever in the Fussa area, and you like Nihon-shu, you must stop in to Mitsugiya.
