American star Tom Cruise will arrive in Japan on Dec 1 for a 27-hour visit to promote his new film, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” and to show his support for evacuees of the March 11 disaster.

Cruise, 49, had originally planned to start his 11-nation world promotional tour in Dubai, where much of the movie was filmed, but decided to kick off the campaign in Japan instead.

Cruise is immensely popular in Japan where he loves to interact with fans. In the past, he has gone on a bullet train and a chartered plane with fans to Osaka.

During his brief visit, Cruise says he has four missions, which he has chosen to accept (mirroring the famous line from the films and vintage TV series).

First of all, he will attend a news conference. Then he will meet fans from Fukushima, who have been displaced by the March 11 disaster. His third mission is to attend the Japan premiere and greet the audience from the stage. His fourth mission is being kept under wraps, but involves a surprise visit to an as-yet undisclosed location in Tokyo.

“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” opens in Japan on Dec 16.
