With the best-selling products of 2010 out of the way, along with a few other ‘best-of’ lists here and here, we make a move over to the world of literature.
Yokoso News has revealed the list of best-selling books in Japan for this year. The list was originally compiled by Tohan, Japan’s biggest distributor of books and manga. Their top seller for 2010? Non-fiction title, ‘If a high school girl has read Drucker’s Management.’
To date, the book has shifted an impressive 1.72 million copies and is available on Amazon Japan, here.
Written from the point of view of Minami-chan, a high-schooler who is in charge of her class baseball team. ‘If a high school girl has read Drucker’s Management’ follows her as she applies the business management theories from Peter Drucker’s ‘Management‘ to her squad in time for the high school baseball championship.
What the book is really doing, however, is taking a friendly and cute anime character trope and using that to explain the otherwise messy fields of global finance and economics.
As Yokoso News explains, economics is a highly-specialized field but by explaining it in such a down-to-earth manner the book makes it very easy to understand and has become a hit with salarymen, housewives and students alike.
An English and Chinese version are currently in the works and other languages are expected to follow.
The rest of the top 5:
- Lose weight with just one band. Wrap it and diet.
- Watching the cafeteria of Tanita, the manufacturer of digital scales.
- Official adventure guidebook to Pokemon White
- 1Q84 Book 3
