“Aki” equals autumn in Akita

This is the latest in the Malcolm Ernst series of cartoons.

Hi, everyone. I hope you are all enjoying this wonderful time of the year to be in Japan as much as I am. It’s me, your favorite Akita bijin, Akie, coming to you from where the fall season is Sooooo  magnificently beautiful!

The Japanese word for Autumn is  “Aki” 秋 and the Japanese word for picture is “e” 絵. Akita (aki 秋) and “ta” 田 meaning fields combined with bijin 美人  which means beautiful person or in most cases beautiful girl. Putting them all together, 秋絵-秋田美人 translates to “ an autumn picture of a beautiful girl in the autumn fields! That’s me!

Well. autumn has certainly come now. The colors are always spectacular here.

I just love this season so much. It is the transition time between our rather warm summers and very cold winters. It is a time for everyone and everything to brace for the changing season. It is a time to start wearing warmer clothes and still try to look cute!  The weather this year seems a bit out of whack to me though. Maybe the powerful earthquake and tsunami we experienced last spring changed the normal weather conditions we are accustom to this time of year. I mean, like one day the weather will be unseasonably warm and the next it will turn rather cold. It makes it hard for a girl to know exactly what to wear when she gets dressed in the morning

Take today for instance. When I got up, it seemed like a rather warm day was to be expected, so I wore my mini skirt and a light sweater. By noon though, the clouds came in and it got a bit cool so I was sure glad I had brought my coat with me just incase. Such is the dilemma I face every morning! Now if I can only decide what to have for dinner tonight. Kiritampo or some other of our local cuisine.

Anyway, I hope you are taking in this season as much as I am. I will be bringing you more tidbits and goodies about my home here in Akita in blogs to come. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do bringing them to you. But now it’s getting a little to cold, even for me so, I think I’ll go and put on some pants!

Hehehehehe….ja mata ne!
