There is a cake shop in Tokyo’s Nakano district with a unique welcoming reception. Captain Jack Sparrow, the character made famous by Johnny Depp in the “Pirates of Caribbean” films, is there to greet customers.

His official name is “Koenji Jack Sparrow” and he can speak Japanese fluently. Actually, he is the manager of  Cafe & Cafe Bar Pirates of Ryoma. He is in the shop almost everyday and is happy to pose for photos and recommend cakes and other sweets to customers.

The shop has a cafe space, if you care to eat in.

The shop’s exterior, seen in the image above, is also hand drawn.

Open hours are from 1 p.m. until 5 a.m.  To get there, take the Sobu, Chuo or Tozai lines to Nakano Station. Go out the north exit and follow the crowd into the covered shopping arcade. At the end of the arcade, turn right onto a small side street. Walk to the end and you’ll see the café on the left of the connecting street. The address is Nakano 5-54-3, Nakano-ku.

That’s freakin’ awesome. Way to capitalize and offer some free fun to sell what I presume to be more than decent-quality cake. I’ll have to check this place out.
