Design Fiesta 2012 Part 1

November 19th, 2012By Category: Arts & Entertainment, Culture, Events, Shopping

Design Festa is held twice a year, in May and November.  It is the biggest artshow in Japan and is extraordinary.  Anyone can buy a booth or a large canvas and get stuck in.  Everyone lets loose and the reception is awesome.  It is held at Big Sight over two floors and a first timer would need both days to see everything.  There are a number of categories, including drawing and illustration, postcards, craft, painting, ‘the dimmed lighting area’, dancing, jewellery, accessories and clothes. It’s like a fairground ride for artists – you experience every type of emotion when you see the originality and dedication these artists have.

The ticket price is very good value at 1000 yen for 1 day (about 10 dollars) or 1800 for 2 days (about 18 dollars).  The film ‘Japan in a Day’ sort of resembles this exhibition, except re artists.

Even foreigners can have booths!  They are very reasonably priced.  The next Design Festa is in May 2013.  Check out the website which is in Japanese and English www.designfesta.com.  Don’t forget that many budding artists were found here.

Location: Big Sight, Station: Kokusai Tenjijo on the Rinkai line
