The Ultimate Fighting Championship makes a triumphant return to Japan on Sunday March 3rd at the Saitama Super Area.
The main event is a light heavyweight bout between perennial multidivisional contenders Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann. Both fighters are coming off decision losses in their previous fights and are eager to prove they they still have the knockout power.
Wanderlei, making his first appearance back in Japan since 2006 was especially popular here after spending much of his career fighting in Japan’s Pride Fighting Championships. It was not long ago that Silva was was revered as the top light heavyweight after putting together an incredible winning streak in Pride and destroying any opponent that came his way. But time catches up with all atheletes and it remains to be seen if a return to the Land of the Rising sun can bring back the spark of The Axe Murderer.
Brian Stann, is a former US Marine who is coming off a tough 2012 and looking to prove that he belongs in the UFC. To prepare for his upcoming fight against Waderlei, Stann brought in a new team of trainers to focus on his groundwork. One of the most respected athletes in the UFC, Stann is one who never engages in trash talk of his opponent but makes it clear that he is here in Japan to send a message that he is a force to be reckoned with in the UFC.
The All American against The Axe Murderer! It should be an epic fight!
