Inokashira Power!

Inokashira Power

Usually when you participate in hanami, you go to a park, sit under a sakura tree, and enjoy a good (perhaps boozy) time with some friends. Sharing the park with many other people engaging in hanami, you’d expect to see some characters enjoying the sakura season too.

It was no different for me this year when I visited Inokashira Koen and saw this uniquely dressed gentleman roaming around the park. He enthusiastically waved his arms in the air and shouted, “Inokashira power!” while patiently allowing onlookers to photograph him.

While I definitely thought he was interesting, it was the reactions of the people around him that were even more entertaining. His local celebrity reputation precedes him, as I have several friends who’ve seen him before elsewhere. He seems to be a bit of a magical creature, popping up in rather random locations from time to time. Do you know his story or have seen him too?
