If you have never heard of m-flo, now is the time! m-flo is a critically acclaimed Japanese hip hop group consisting of producer and DJ Taku Takahashi and emcee Verbal. With hits like Come again, Hands, and one of their more newer titles Love Comes and Goes, m-flo has ruled the Japanese Hip-Hop landscape for more than a decade.
I had the honor to check out DJ Taku live at Tokyo Night held in Los Angeles, CA recently! Another great thing about CA is the many Japanese events held here. And Tokyo Night is one of them. Tokyo Night is an event started by Japanese International students at USC in 1985. Since then, it has gotten bigger and bigger with famous artists from Japan such as Shingo2, Sphere of Influence, DJ Kaori, Nobodyknows, DJ Steve Aoki, Zeebra, and DJ Taku of m-flo. DJ Taku mixed Electronica house tunes with out of this world sound effects which really brought the whole set together. With his set running for about 90 minutes, DJ Taku captivated the audience as they kept asking for more.
Luckily, before his show, we had the opportunity to meet him, and he was rather cordial and appreciative of our support. The funny thing is, he was just sitting down with his laptop and nobody noticed him. Needless to say, people came up to him after his set to take pictures in droves.
All in all, it was a fun experience and I recommend anybody in the Los Angeles area to attend Tokyo Night if are into Japanese Hip-Hop/Dance/Electronica music. It’s a must! I leave with this group photo with DJ Taku:
