Here are the final two interviews from players of Touch Rugby in Japan. The two give a great insight into what playing touch in Japan is all about.
Check part one of the interviews here.
Nationality: Japanese
Yoko has been playing rugby for a long time. She has made the adjustment to touch rugby very well and is a good player to have on your team! Not only that, but she is very keen on helping out behind the scenes, which makes her a great club member!
How long have you been playing touch rugby for?
I have been playing touch rugby for about 8 years.
Why did you start?
I started playing touch rugby when I was living in Vietnam. At the time, there were not many activities to do on weekend, unless you liked going shopping, watching movies, being a tourist etc. The reason why I picked up this sport is because I wanted to meet more people outside of work.
When did you join Fun with Touch?
I joined in October 2009
How did you find out about FWT?
I did play a little touch rugby in Japan before I joined Fun with Touch, but I couldn’t find a club where I could play on a regular basis. Fortunately my touch rugby friend told me about FWT. I was interested in it, so one day I went to Tatsumi to play and now I go as often as I can!
What do you enjoy most about FWT?
I really enjoy playing touch rugby, but I also like the social aspect of it as well. FWT provides me with a great opportunity to meet a wide variety of people regardless of age, sex, nationality, or experience.
Second Interview
Nationality: USA
Frank did not come from a rugby background, but he was keen to learn how to play seeing that he was in Japan. He has picked up the game well despite his liking for American football!
How long have you been playing touch rugby for?
First time I played was in June 2009.
Why did you start?
Mostly started to have something to do on weekends, that social and mixed in exercise. Glenn’s recommendation to come out and learn how to play was good motivation.
When did you join Fun with Touch?
I joined FWT after first time playing (June 2009). FWT group taught me the basics and has helped in development since then.
How did you find out about FWT?
Found about FWT through word of mouth.
What do you enjoy most about FWT?
I like the social aspect of FWT; organized and regular play with good mix of people to meet and hang out with.
Any last words?
Tatsumi Park is a great place to play, and it’s always been fun with this group.
