For 20 years, there was a dormitory managed in a quaint, little residential area near Tama Plaza station.  Then came the 3.11 earthquake and the property manager lost their tenants because the company renting the building decided it was no longer needed.

This is where Shared Design came in.  A previous article featured on GaijinPot and Real Estate Japan showed a structure where life hadn’t been breathed back into it yet.  The first article showcased the “before”, this article features the “after”.

With the help of tenant’s wishing to express their artistic side, Shared Design completely renovated the existing structure into what you see here.  Tenants are free to design, paint and decorate their own private rooms the way they see fit and Shared Design chipped in for the complete renovation of the shared spaces.

Shared Design has this building for only 3 years meaning that at the end of that term, tenants must move out.  However, that term has only just begun so there is still a lot of time left here for anyone interested.

The limited master lease also didn’t stop Shared Design from going all out on the common areas.  Below are more photos of the kitchen complete with a brick oven (perfect for the pizza chef’s out there) and more stainless steel than Salvatore Cuomo has!

The bath is another giant feature.  Looking like it flew straight in from an Aomori onsen, this bath will make you forget you are only 25 minutes away from Shibuya and the rest of the Tokyo Metro area.  You’ll find yourself dreaming of slipping into this work of art to melt away your aches and pains after a long day of running around the city!

By far surpassing even this writer’s expectations on what could be accomplished in so little time with a barren corporate dormitory, Shared Design has gone to great lengths turning this place into a “home”.  The furniture Shared Design brought in for the common lounges are all vintage antiques, which were purposefully color matched to the wooden floorboards laid down throughout.  In design circles, wood is called a warm material meaning it brings out sense of natural warmth and security not found in “designer” (read “open concrete”) structures.  For those with fond childhood memories of deep mahoganies and chestnut browns, Shared Design Tama Plaza is your place to call home.

An empty room waiting for your unrealized inspiration!

For a limited time, sign a contract starting between now and March 31st and get 50% off your first month’s rent!  Get in quick by taking two minutes to fill in the inquiry form below and schedule a viewing today!
